On Saturday, April 13 at 9 a.m. and Sunday, April 14 at 12 noon, Aquinas College will host the 29th annual Aquinas College Jazz Festival. High school and college jazz bands from duos to sixteen or more instrumentalists per band will perform in concert for music students, jazz educators, and the general public.

College bands from Central Michigan University, Grand Valley State University, Grand Rapids Community College, and Michigan Technical College will showcase the talents of their finest music students. In addition, high school groups such as Northview High School, Comstock Park, Ann Arbor Community High School, Forest Hills Northern, and many others will be presented in performance all day on both days of the fest.

To top it all off, the Aquinas College Big Band, Combo, and Vocal Jazz Group will share the performance spotlight during both days of the fest. Great playing from all these bands is sure to provide Aquinas College Jazz Festival audiences with many hours of musical delight.

In addition to all the fine high school and college jazz band performances, educational clinics will be presented for all students in attendance. Non-students -- those interested in learning more about how student musicians learn the important essentials required to become a true jazz musician -- are also invited to attend.

In the evening after all the student bands have performed, performances by top-notch jazz professionals will be offered on both Saturday and Sunday nights. On Saturday night at 9 p.m., Dr. Robin Connell, jazz vocalist and pianist will perform with her trio. Immediately following Connell's performance, Count Basie alumnus and jazz trombonist, Dennis Wilson will perform in concert accompanied by jazz trombonist, Dr. Paul Brewer and his jazz trio in a dedication to the great "Jay
Kai" duo of the 1950s and '60s.

On Sunday night at 8 p.m., the Grand Rapids Jazz Orchestra (GRJO) under the direction of Dr. Paul Brewer will make its grand debut. The newly-formed GRJO will carry on the tradition of the late Dr. Bruce Early's Night Band while forging new performance directions and showcasing the compositions and arrangements of some today's best jazz writers. The GRJO debut and all the festival performances are "must be there" events! So, please make plans to attend the 29th Annual Aquinas College Jazz Festival!
