The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has selected two Aquinas
College senior basketball players to All-America teams and named a third as an Academic
All-American.
Aquinas Lady Saints player Joslyn Narber of Wyoming, Michigan, was named to its 2010 Division II All-America first team. Also senior guard John Lierman of Holt, Michigan, was picked for second-team honors.
Narber improved on her third-team honor from a year ago. She started all 32 games for the Saints this season, posting a 20.5 points per game average and 7.5 rebounds. The forward ranked fourth in the nation for three-point percentage shooting 43.9 percent and led Aquinas in assists (112) and steals (66). She put on a scoring show at the national tournament, scoring 57 points in just two games. She was fifth nationally in free throws with .873 and sixth for points per game. Narber finished Aquinas career with a record 2,184 points, moving her past former AQ all-time woman's scoring leader Kathy Grzegorski-Johnson '85 who had 2,037 points in her career. Her point total also moved her to the Number Two all-time leading scorer among Grand Rapids area women's college basketball players. She passed former Grand Valley State University star Mary Randle (2,156) to gain the second spot. Davenport University's Jen Rausch tops the list with 2,398.
Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Player of the Year John Lierman, an Aquinas senior, was the lone WHAC athlete to be named an NAIA All-American for Div. II Men's Basketball. Lierman averaged 17.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game as Aquinas went 21-12 this season. The senior forward finished his AQ career with 1,943 points, averaging 15.18 points per game and was ranked in four national stat categories: 20th in total points (593); 43rd in total assists (117), 43rd in points per game (17.97); and 46th in three-point field goals made (70).
Kaitlyn Lang received Academic All-American Honors for her work in the classroom as well as on the court. The senior from Waterford, Michigan boasts an excellent GPA and has been major contributor to the women's basketball team.
