The Aquinas spring sports teams have created some excitement with appearances in regional and national contests:

The baseball team competed in the national NAIA tournament in Lewiston, Idaho over the Memorial Day weekend. After splitting their first two games of the double elimination tournament, the Saints lost their third game on Monday, finishing tied for seventh in the 10-team competition.

Meanwhile, the College's outdoor track and field team returned from the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships in Louisville, Kentucky. Four Saints received NAIA All-American honors.

The National Intercollegiate Athletic Association (NAIA) has recognized two Aquinas athletes with Academic All-American honors. The two are Matt Garner, senior from Kentwood, Mich., and Katie Kroft, senior from Grandville, Mich. Garner, a two sport honoree in tennis and soccer, and Kroft led their respective teams to fine seasons. The men's squad won the Region 8 championship and advanced to the national tournament and the women's team finished as regional runner-ups. Congratulations to both.

The men's tennis team which has been ranked all year in the top 25, peaking at the #11 ranking, just recently returned from the NAIA National Championship. The women's tennis team completed its season as runner-up in the regional finals held in Fort Wayne, Ind.

The women's softball team which posted a 37-14 record that included a first place finish in the WHAC as well as a Region VIII Championship -- a tournament hosted at AQ's campus -- recently returned from Alabama where they had the privilege in competing in the NAIA National tournament for the first time since 2001.

After claiming their first WHAC title since the inception of the WHAC in
the fall, the men's golf team led the 18 team regional finals the first two days and ended up tied for fourth in the Region VIII tournament.

Congratulations to the coaches and student athletes for all of their hard work and commitment in making this past year another one to remember on the fields of competition.
