Grand Rapids, Mich. - Aquinas College has announced that Marcie Hillary, executive director of Hospice of Michigan - West Michigan, and Bill Manns, president of Mercy Health Saint Mary’s, have each been appointed to a three-year term on Aquinas’ Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees is committed to advancing the mission and values of Aquinas’ Catholic and Dominican educational community through careful stewardship of College policy, property, strategic planning and fiscal affairs.

“We are excited to welcome Marcie and Bill to the board,” said Aquinas College President Juan Olivarez. “The addition of these two dynamic leaders will help strengthen Aquinas’ ability to respond to the needs of the surrounding community.”

In her 17 years at Hospice of Michigan (HOM), Hillary has served in a variety of leadership roles throughout the state. In her current position, Hillary is responsible for raising awareness for HOM’s non-profit mission to serve all terminally ill patients who need and seek end-of-life services, regardless of age, diagnosis or ability to pay.

Hillary also serves as a member of the Catholic Charities West Michigan board of directors and its marketing and fundraising committee. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Aquinas College and her master’s degree in public administration from Grand Valley State University.

“I loved my time as a student at Aquinas,” said Hillary. “It’s an honor to now serve as a board member, especially as the college has grown so tremendously. I’m proud to have been asked to participate in its continued growth and success.”

In August 2013, Manns was appointed president of Mercy Health Saint Mary’s. Previously he was chief operating officer of the Alameda Health System in Oakland, Calif. A Michigan native, Manns grew up in Detroit and holds two degrees from the University of Michigan.

“As a newer member of the Grand Rapids community, I’ve quickly come to know what a big impact Aquinas has on the community,” said Manns. “I’m excited to be a part of shaping the future of Aquinas’ role as a leading academic institution and as a community partner.”
