The National Endowment for the Arts fellowship-winning writer, Dinty W. Moore will
appear as part of Aquinas College's Contemporary Writers series on Tuesday, November
8 in the Aquinas Wege Student Center Ballroom at 7:30 p.m. On Wednesday, November
9, Moore will present a Noon Time Talk at 12:30 p.m. in the Loutit Room, Wege Student
Center. Bring your brown bag lunch. The events are free and open to the public.
Moore, whose interests range from short stories to nonfiction about Buddhism and Internet culture, is the author of "Sudden Stories," "Toothpick Men," The Emperor's Virtual Clothes: The Naked Truth about Internet Culture," "The Accidental Buddhist," and "The Truth of the Matter: Art and Craft in Creative Nonfiction" (2006). He also publishes "Brevity," an electronic journal of concise literary nonfiction. Moore studied writing at the University of Pittsburgh with author Lee Gutkind, and worked briefly as a reporter for United Press International.
His fiction has been published in The Georgia Review, The Iowa Review, The Southern Review, and numerous other literary magazines. His nonfiction has been published in the New York Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer and The Philadelphia City Paper. Moore has been teaching writing at Penn State Altoona since 1990. He co-coordinates the College's Integrative Arts program.
The Aquinas College Contemporary Writers Series was founded by a grant from Tony Foster, M.D. '73 and Linda Nemec Foster '72. The series kicked off in 1997 by bringing well-known authors to Aquinas College for a public reading and a workshop with students.
Other writers appearing in the series this year include Stuart Dybeck on Wednesday, January 18 and special appearance by Nobel Prize winning poet Seamus Heaney on Wednesday May 10.
