in case of emergency performing for laugh fest

Aquinas has always been known for their commitment to both academics and service; however, there might be a new quality to add to the list: comedy. The student-run Improv troupe, In Case of Emergency, is expanding from its usual audience of AQ students, faculty and staff to the Grand Rapids community and beyond as they join in with Gilda’s Club 2012 LaughFest.

“We had the opportunity to be involved this year, and knew that taking advantage of it would be beneficial for each of our organizations,” Dan Wilson, Technical Director at Aquinas, said of the In Case of Emergency troupe’s March 14 performance at the Performing Arts Center. “It allows us to cross-promote and make people aware of us and what we do who may not be part of our regular demographic.”

And what should the audience look forward to from the performance? “An awesome show. Duh,” was AQ junior and troupe captain Chris Skurka’s candid response. But even more than that, the troupe will offer clean, family-friendly humor to a comedic style that often relies on profanity and sexual jokes.

“I truly believe humor is at its best when it is pure, and In Case of Emergency definitely keeps that in mind when we perform,” said Skurka. “We have an incredible assortment of [comedians] who bring different dynamics of wit, intelligence, and comedy to the table.”

The show will be at 10:30 p.m. on March 14 at the Performing Arts Center at Aquinas College. Doors will open at 10:15 p.m. This event is free and open to the public, although there is a suggested $5 donation which will go to Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster or at the door.
