Michigan author to speak as part of the Contemporary Writers Series.

GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN (September 20, 2010) - The 2010-2011 Aquinas College Contemporary
Writers Series kicks off with Michigan author Anne-Marie Oomen on Thursday, September
30 at 7:30 p.m. The reading is in the Wege Center Ballroom and is free and open to
the public.
Oomen's latest book An American Map has been available since April 2010 and is a collection of essays. Two memoirs inspired by farm life, Pulling Down the Barn and House of Fields, were both Michigan Notable Books from Wayne State Press along with a collection of poetry, Uncoded Woman (Milkweed Editions). She has written and produced several plays including the award-winning Northern Belles as well as Wives of an American King.
In 1997, Ooman founded the Dunes Review, a publication of the best of local, regional and national writers. It is a joint project between Michigan Writers, Glen Arbor Art Association and the Beach Bards. It sponsors a yearly contest, The William J. Shaw Memorial Prize for Poetry.
Ooman serves as Instructor of Creative Writing at Interlochen Arts Academy, is faculty editor for The Interlochen Review and instructor for the Solstice MFA in creative writing at Pine Manor College in Massachusetts.
The Aquinas College Contemporary Writers Series was founded by a grant from Tony Foster, M.D. ’73 and Linda Nemec Foster ’72. The series, launched in 1997, brings well-known authors to Aquinas College for public readings and workshops with students. >>More Information
