AQ Sponsors the Sustainable Food Initiative

Grand Rapids, Michigan (April 1, 2010) - Who likes affordable, healthy, delicious,
environmentally restorative and culturally aware food? FRESH is a grassroots efforts
for a grassroots movement that can truly help get us to a tipping point where sustainable
food is no longer just a niche market but is something that will strengthen our economy,
reduce our health care burdens and restore our environment.
In an effort to raise awareness on the movement toward sustainability in the food industry, Aquinas College is hosting a viewing of "Fresh" in the Wege Ballroom on Wednesday April 7 at 7 p.m.
"Fresh" is a documentary produced in 2009 by director Ana Joanes. The film celebrates activists, such as 2008 MacArthur's Genius Award Winner, Will Allen, who are transforming food production into a safer, more sustainable industry.
The Students Striving for Sustainability (S3) club is presenting the showing, which is sponsored by West-Michigan Co-op and Saint Thomas Apostle Parish.
"I am looking to educate students about the type of food which is healthy for them, restorative to the environment and leading to a strong economy," said Brett Little, senior and President of S3. "We want to let the surrounding community know that Aquinas is interested in these important issues and wants to promote them."
Local farmers and businesses from organizations such as Holistic Health Care, West Michigan Co-op, and St. Thomas Social Justice Advocacy Group will also be present for the showing. The event is open to the public.
