Aquinas students are making good use with the Spring Break vacation by taking part in the annual service learning trip to Selma, Alabama. Partnered with the Edmundite Mission Corps, students will work with the poor through housing renovations while living in volunteer guesthouses.

“Aquinas has been involved with the Selma, Alabama community for years, working with the Edmundite Missions,” said Eric Bridge, Coordinator of Service Learning. “My hope is for students to gain a deeper sense of the Dominican charism of Service. In choosing to serve, our lives are greatly enriched, even transformed.”

While there, students have the opportunity to take part, not only in service, but in their education as well. They will have the opportunity to visit the Birmingham Civil Rights Museum and will actively engage in learning about Alabama’s history and culture through films, speakers, community building and reflection.

“Every little action we do in Alabama has an enormous impact. A little bit goes a long way, especially in volunteering,” junior student leader Caroline Sarnacki said. “We have a really great group of students attending this spring and I hope it will be an eye opener for them.”
