Grand Rapids, Michigan (October 06, 2003) ? Implementation of sustainable business practices is becoming a greater focus among those businesses focused on success. Those charged with the responsibility of developing and guiding sustainable business policies have joined forces to form the West Michigan Sustainable Business Forum. The group will hold its next meeting at Aquinas College on November 10, 2003, from Noon to 2 p.m. in the College's Lacks Center (Room 141) at 159 Woodward Lane, S.E.

The 70-member organization (http://www.sustainable-busforum.org/) is a partnership between the West Michigan Environmental Action Council and regional businesses interested in continuously improving their environmental performance to meet development principles. Forum members investigate and develop policies, programs and management systems that promote environmentally and economically sustainable commerce.

The group meets monthly to discuss the latest practices and to learn how to promote sustainable technology throughout the region. At the November meeting, Dr. Matthew Tueth, an assistant professor of geography and environmental studies, will make a short presentation on Aquinas College's new Sustainable Business Program. Tueth is coordinator of the undergraduate program, which is believed to be the first of its kind in the nation. There currently are three graduate programs in the country focused on similar issues, including one at the University of Michigan.
